Hi guys,
There are certain things you can’t control in life; your genes, any illness you might have, what other people do etc. And then there are the things you can control; your actions and your choices.
Dude, that’s some deep thinking.
I hear the following a lot; “Oh, as soon as I have 2-3 glasses of wine or beer the weight just piles on, it runs in the family.” or “The moment I touch a take-away I gain a kilo, it’s always been that way”
If you look closely at those sentences there are two parts to them both and which part you focus on makes all the difference.
What a lot of people saying things like that really mean is “My family all gains weight when drinking so it’s in my genes”. As if there’s nothing they can do about it.
However, if you focus on the “As soon as I have 2-3 glasses of wine” bit then you focus on what you do control. Now the situation becomes manageable as it becomes about choice.
You accept that, if you choose to have a glass of wine or 3, your weightloss will stall. You accept the consequence of your actions. I’m not saying that there’s anything wrong with that, by the way, so please don’t think that. I am pointing this out to empower you. It’s fine to choose to prioritise having a nice enjoyable evening with a beer and a take-away over weightloss every now and again.
The important thing is that you realise that it’s all your choice.
Instead of not having any say in whether you gain weight or not, you can now take action to ensure you are successful. You can prioritise your weightloss/fitness or those 2-3 glasses of wine. You can decide to have a take-away or do your meal prep and eat what fits within your healthy eating plan.
The choices are all yours, you’re in control, and when you realise that, no matter what you decide to do, that’s a much better state of mind to be in than “Oh I can’t help it, there’s no point even trying”.
Take care,
Peter
